What is a Bridge?
An ordinary dental bridge is a fake tooth (dental prosthesis) that replaces one or more missing teeth. Adjacent teeth are used as anchors to the bridge, which fills the gap in between your original teeth and ultimately restores the overall function and appearance of your teeth. The same concept can be applied with implant bridges. For example if you have 2 teeth missing you may not need 2 separate implants, one implant can be placed carrying a bridge to replace 2 missing teeth.
How long does an ordinary dental bridge procedure take?
Usually this procedure can be done in just two dental visits. On your first visit, we will take an impression of your smile and prepare the adjacent teeth for the bridgework. Your dental bridge will then be created and matched to look similar to your natural teeth. Many of our patients see our master ceramist to achieve the best cosmetic result by having a computerised shade match.
Once the bridges are finalized and approved aesthetically, you will be asked to return for your second visit to place and cement your dental bridge.
At the clinic we offer different types of bridges:
– zirconia bridges
– emax bridges
– porcelain bonded to precious metal
– composite bridges
– resin retained bridges
How do I care for my dental bridge?
Although we consider dental bridges to be short-term solutions for dental problems, they can actually last up to 10 years if you look after them properly. A dental bridge needs to be brushed, flossed and cleaned at least twice a day. Your dentist and hygienist can show you how to care for your dental bridge safely and effectively, so it lasts as long as possible.
Who are the typical candidates for a dental bridge?
Anyone who is missing one or more teeth is a good candidate for dental bridge. However, the adjacent teeth must be in a good condition, as they will serve as anchors for the dental bridge. Your gums have to be healthy
In cases where a patient has a few missing teeth, then dental implants will be required to replace the missing teeth with a dental bridge attached on top.
